DineLA recap #1

School, work, internship, repeat. No time to blog until right now! Anyways, recently participated in DineLa last week and here is a recap on one of the restaurants we went to: Ray’s and Stark Bar in Lacma, one of our favorite restaurants.

rays8Pig’s Ear salad – Right balance with the vinaigrette. Pig’s ears tasted like chicharron, so good!

rays9Chile – Stuffed with chorizo, ground beef; different taste from what I’m used to with Ray’s.

rays10

Octopus – grilled tentacle, very tender and not chewy. On a bed of burrata and some spicy sauce, really well balanced.

rays2

Pork Belly – this is by far the best dish in ray’s. Always order this because the smell itself lures you in. You just have to eat it for yourself because if I start describing it, i’ll salivate.

rays3

Rice Agnolotti – this is probably the second best dish! the raviolli is stuffed with the rice truffled goodness.

rays4

Short rib – tender, succulent, just how a short rib should be.

Discombobulate

Apparently it’s thursday today. New year’s day has messed up everyone’s sense of time and place. Since it fell on a tuesday, we randomly had to take time off from our daily routine and relax. The next day being a wednesday; everyone had to go back to work. Obviously, this disabled us from our daily routines that we had to slap ourselves silly a few times to remember what we actually did. My point is, time flies… it’s almost the end of the first week of the year.. and we need more days off.

Today was fun, my extended family came over to celebrate a late New Years get together. Food, obviously, is always the main subject. My aunt wanted comfort food, so mom mostly cooked filipino dishes. Took plenty of pictures, laughed, caught up with everyone’s lives, watched movies.. it was fun! nice to be with the family at this time.

2 of 365

I guess this 365 project is harder than I thought. I’m not a fan of carrying anything with me as I leave the house. If they don’t fit in my jean pockets, they are to be left at home. Well, problem with a 365; camera must be brought everywhere i’m headed. Consequently, since I forgot to bring it when I went out, I was left with a 8 mp camera..

Anyways, first impressions: I love food. I live to eat. So mostly all my pictures will be food.

365?

A brand new year means a brand new start. I don’t make resolutions but this year I made some. They are mostly long term goals than resolutions. Resolutions are easily trashed after it is made, goals help us change. As a start, I’m finally going to start this 365 project i’ve been wanting to do. It helps me reflect on what I did most of the day and eventually later on at the end of the year. So enjoy! here’s to 2013.

Traditional vs. Online Schooling

As the internet continues to expand, almost everything can be accomplished online. An individual can apply for employments, financial aid, obtain degrees and even use the internet as an alternative way for traditional schooling. Online education is beneficial to those individuals who have busy schedules that are unable to commute to school. Also, it allows flexibility because individuals can do the course at their own pace.  This can easily give someone instant degrees while simultaneously keep their current jobs and stay home with the family. However, online education may promote discouragement and boredom because of its flexibility. Individuals may be surrounded with distractions as they are doing their homework and exams. They might not continue because the instructions may be unclear, material may be hard to understand, professors are not there to immediately answer their questions. Although, students that follow through an online program and finish it shows that they became diligent and conscientious because they did it at their own pace. But with busy schedules, this type of education can easily be disregarded because it can be done another time. There are many possibilities that the students can become lazy and unmotivated. Thus, traditional education is best for most. It offers classes with physical professors that are able to answer questions immediately. Students can also physically hear the professor, which usually allows students to clearly understand information than just reading the material themselves. It can motivate and encourage because of the collective aura a physical school gives. Traditional education also help students to socialize, share ideas and create study groups which develops each student to do better. Being able to personally talk and ask questions to professors and socialize and share ideas with classmates is beneficial than staring at a computer.
